Karwaan is a hub for all travelling tribes and solo adventurers. Located in the heart of the valley, the boutique bed and breakfast is a perfect starting point for diving into the soul of the city. The site was previously used to house an office space with a garage on the adjacent side. Those buildings were then renovated into the accommodation and service part of the BnB with two different degrees of architectural intervention.

Accommodation Unit – Private Spaces
Upon various analyses, the larger building was renovated without any structural consolidation into the private and semi public areas of the accommodation. Theme of space optimization led to simple minimal planning of the space. Two types of units were derived with Living room, bathroom, pantry and single/double bed rooms respectively. These interior spaces then featured the custom made mango wood furniture with hint of copper as lamp shades to compliment the simple yet effective planning of the space.

Service Unit – Public Spaces
Structural consolidation was done on this part of the site. MS frames were used to strengthen the structure of the previously garage building. A reception area was placed alongside the dining area inside the larger opening of the garage door. Suspended glass canopy over salwood decking then bridged the connection between outdoor / indoor areas. The dining area was visualized with the approach of guests of the BnB observing the cooking process. To highlight the feature, a 10’ x 4’ rosewood table was placed in a raw cement finished interior with the beautiful existing wooden ceiling joists. All the amenities needed for the dining were placed in the space with the capacity to house 10 people inside the dining room.
